How Yoga Can Support a Healthier Lower Back

Yoga doesn't cure back pain overnight! It's gradual and will benefit your body's posture, strength and awareness. Yoga to relieve lower back pain is attained gradually for the majority of individuals as they practise consistently and work with their yoga strokes to alleviate the pain.

01

Improve Mobility and Gentle Flexibility

Lower back pain yoga stretches will help to make the muscles in the lower back and around the hips flexible. Through the years this essentially makes everyday activities (sitting, standing, bending, etc.) easier and less rigid.

02

Build Strength and Body Awareness

Yoga for back pain also strengthens up the core and back muscles which support your spine. With increasing strength, this awareness of oneself in the sitting/standing/movement position naturally increases.

03

Develop Better Movement Habits

Real change is not achieved with one stretch, it's done with good habits. You will learn some subtle micro-movements in our classes that can be contributors to your back pain and be able to gradually integrate other movements into your daily routine.

LIVE ONLINE SESSION

What Your Online Lower Back Yoga Sessions Include

Each online session focuses on you rather than a pre-recorded video. A class usually includes live instruction, tailored modifications, stretching and mobility techniques, breathwork, alignment hints and pacing your class according to your fitness level.

OUR APPROACH

ShiHa's Approach to Lower Back Pain

There is no list of stretches for you to perform that is easy on your back. If someone says they've got 'lower back pain', this typically doesn't refer to the same place — it may well be their core is weak or stiff, or they may be using another part of their body in a compensatory way. “True" correction starts by observing people's motions, not a specific list of poses, as Master Alok explains. This is why we prioritise your pattern in our LIVE classes and don't offer a generic "routine".

WHY SHIHA YOGA

Why choose Shiha Yoga for lower back yoga?

Real Attention, Every Session

Most yoga online is conducted in big groups of individuals, in which the instructor is not capable even of noticing each and every pupil, let alone correct them. Your teacher monitors your movement in real-time and corrects you when practising; that's real-time help across time zones that really counts at ShiHa.

Personalized Sessions for Your Needs

Our products remain small scale and pay attention to each member. Corrective movements are tailored to you or your individual stiffness/compensation pattern and not a generic instruction of the group.

If back pain is keeping you from normal mobility, a live class might be the more relaxing introduction to some exercise than watching a video.
